Men
The Agecroft Men’s squad is highly competitive with a great team spirit. We are welcoming to all and have boats for every level of development, from Novice to Elite.
Our training is focused both on and off the water. We have a fantastic training facility with a large group of men training together in the gym on weeknights. The 5k stretch of water on the River Irwell is great for paddling, as well as fast pieces, with several men’s crews on the water racing side-by-side. We have the use of a great fleet of boats to accommodate all levels, with high-performance racing shells for our top crews. We benefit from high-quality coaching and excellent training programmes that get the best results out of everyone. The squad’s strength is clear at The Head of the River, where we entered four eights in 2017 and have held the Jackson Trophy for the fastest men’s club crew off the Thames since 2015. There were strong results in the 2017 regatta season; winning tier two eights at The Met Regatta. The 2017 season was topped off with a strong performance at Henley Royal Regatta, where we were represented in the Britannia, Diamonds, Prince of Wales and the Thames Cup. The Britannia 4+ competing at Henley for the first time and making the Thursday; losing out to strong opposition from New York. Matt Jenner did a stellar job qualifying for the Diamond Challenge Sculls and lost out in a close race on the Thursday. The Agecroft Nottingham composite made it to the semi-finals after beating top quality opposition along the way but lost out to the winners in a close race. The Thames cup eight had a great run beating the selected crew from London on the Wednesday and progressing past strong opposition on Thursday and Friday to make the semi-finals. Agecroft Men’s squad has had great success at Henley Royal Regatta, frequently reaching the semi-finals. It achieved its ambition to win Henley Royal Regatta for the first time in 2009, winning the Britannia Challenge Cup. The squad continues to be successful and aspires to win Henley again. |
