British Rowing Masters Championships 2016
DATE: SATURDAY 15th and SUNDAY 16th JUNE 2019
VENUE: STRATHCLYDE COUNTRY PARK, LANARKSHIRE Under a mixture of blue skies, sunshine and rain clouds, our masters squad attended this year's British Masters Champs at Strathclyde Country Park with 6 crews entered across the two day event, that saw almost 500 crews competing from 81 clubs. In the Championship events we saw a long awaited win for the C8+ after a number of silver medals in the past few years. The eight enjoyed lovely conditions on Sunday morning, beating a strong Nottingham composite crew. The Championship E2x & C4- both finished fifth in their finals, competing against some very swift local opposition, with the 4- suffering from a steering malady that didn't help their cause. In the Non Championship events we saw a convincing win by Jim Dunlop and Rory O'Hare in the A-C 2x to pick up their second gold medal of the event, whilst Eric Kent & Bill Aldridge were in the running with a very credible 3rd pace in their D-F 2x. Saving the best to last the D-F 4x of Eric Kent, Bill Aldridge, Ed Shropshire and Rich Aldham produced a photo finish in the very final race of the day, losing by under a canvas to Doncaster RC, but beating a much fancied Northwich/Runcorn composite by 1 foot. A superb last 250m push from all the crews saw the finish line camera in action much to the delight of the crowd on the bank. All in all it was a fantastic regatta, our thanks go to all at Scottish rowing for their warm welcome, great facilities (including a whiskey bar!!), and the wonderful volunteers who made it all possible.
