Head of the River Race 2019

DATE: SATURDAY, 30 MARCH 2019
VENUE: THAMES, LONDON

Head of the River 2019 featured not just 4 mens crews but 2 Women's as well, giving us 6 entries which is a club record. Add the 3 entries to the Masters Head on Sunday meant we had 9 crews racing this weekend on the Tideway which is a tremendous effort by all. It also put great strain not just on boats but it made loading the trailer quite interesting to say the least. A big thank you to John for towing both ways.
The weather on Saturday could not have been better - warm, sunny and little wind. Not the usual Tideway weather at the end of March! All 4 mens crews performed well and ended up with 35th, 76th, 112th and 202nd respectively. The dev' men were particularly pleased with their performance and a shame they just missed out on a top 200 result. The first 8 were disappointed not to retain the Jackson trophy for a 4th year running but congratulations to Tyne Amateur for taking the trophy to Newburn for the first time. The addition of Women to the event was an interesting development following the cancellation of their Head a few weeks ago. Both crews rowed well and an excellent 5th place for the first 8 and a very creditable 14th for the seconds.

All in all, an excellent day out and a good reward for the winter's hard work by all the athletes, coxes and coaches.
