What You'll Learn

Over the course of the week, juniors will cover:
  • Proper British Rowing technique, both on rowing machines and on the water
  • Boat handling skills – how to get in and out safely, hold the oars, and row with control
  • Water safety and river awareness, including steering, navigation, and capsize procedures
  • Confidence-building drills to feel comfortable and secure in a boat
  • Experience rowing in different boats, from small singles to larger crew boats

The week finishes with fun racing across the dock – a brilliant way to put new skills into action and celebrate what’s been learned!

What Happens Next

At the end of the course:
  • Competent juniors will be invited to join the Agecroft Junior Squad, training regularly with our experienced coaches and developing their rowing further.
  • Those who’d like a bit more time to build confidence are very welcome to join another Learn to Row course before progressing.

Junior Squad sessions typically run on weekday evenings and weekend mornings – details are provided at the end of the course.

Requirements

To take part safely:
  • Participants should ideally be able to swim 25m fully clothed.
  • If not, they may be required to wear a life jacket while in the boat.

No previous rowing experience is needed – just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn!
